What a Day! Arthur Michael Zilkowsky
– or Art to you and me has produced a wonderful CD.
What a
Day! is an extraordinary eclectic mix of musical genres – showing
how versatile this musician is.
From Bossa Nova to Country –
from Techno to Crooner – Reggae to gentle Rock.
Art has
composed the music and written the lyrics for all 21 tracks. He
plays the guitar and violin, and is the vocalist, including all the
harmonies.
I have greatly enjoyed listening to
this CD many times now and I have my favourite tracks. LIGHT
is great opening number warm uplifting and gently jazzy. I
WANNA BE FREE is amazing with it's insistent techno beat – found
myself punching the air. I”M STILL IN A DREAM followed on
and I was waltzing around the floor as this rich melting voice
crooned to me. The juxtaposition of the two above tracks is
inspired! LOVE. IT'S LOVE is a sublime beautiful delicate love
song - bell's were ringing!
But with 21 tracks to enjoy, each
day something else leaps out and grabs my attention – I am even
learning the harmony of Heaven's Even Better!!
Art is a hugely
talented musician and lyricist, he understands and moves through many
musical genres. It was hard to believe at times I was listening to
the same artist. His songs are soulful and uplifting, showing how
heartfelt his music is to him.
Andras Barlay and Balint Balashazi. While taking a welcome rest in the
kitchen of the Fisherman's Life Museum I happened to hear a sublime voice singing in the inner part
of the house – thinking it was a disc playing of Pavarotti – I
sat back and listened until someone said it was a real live singer!
There in the living room of this old
house were two young men, one playing the vintage pump organ and the
other singing - giving a concert to approximately ten people crowded
into the tiny family room.
It was breathtaking and spine tingling
– after each song the room erupted with cheers and bravos.
Who were they? Andras Barlay (the
singer – a baritone soloist) and Balint Balashazi (a choir master
and a classical pianist)- young Hungarian musicians from Budapest.
They had just played in a concert in Welland, Ontario – in the church of. Our Lady of Hungary - and were now
touring Nova Scotia. They stopped by the Fisherman's Life Museum as
visitors and gave us this wonderful impromptu concert.
We were truly priviledged to hear these
young men perform and hope that next year they will come back to Nova
Scotia and perform again.
