Today (June
28th) was the first Farmers Market of the season at
Musquodoboit Harbour.
The market, situated in the Bingo Hall
at the Eastern Shore Community Centre/ Rink, was filled with stalls
selling local fresh produce, gifts, crafts, jewellery, bread and
cakes, chocolate, flowers, spices, jams chutneys and pickles, soaps,
cosmetics, photographs cards and bookmarks........and much much more.
Including a display from Hope for
Wildlife – the kids enjoyed stroking the corn snake!
Hope for Wildlife is a registered
charity - a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation and education
facility.
Mission Statement “Connecting
people to wildlife in a positive way - through knowledge and
understanding - the Hope for Wildlife Society believes that education
through rehabilitation is the key to a sustainable future

And if you are looking for mosquito
control you can buy a bat house and put it up close to your house –
one bat house will house from 10 to 120 bats, and a female will eat
3,000 little suckers a night!
It's a great place to browse for that
gift, to buy organic vegetables (all locally grown – so fewer food
miles!) - and while you browse enjoy a cup of coffee and a meltin'
muffin!
The market is now in it's second year
and attracts many local people as well as tourists to the Eastern
Shore.
It's the place to go on a Sunday
morning – open from 8am till 12 o'clock – to meet neighbours and
friends and to try the 'taste' of the Eastern Shore.
Music is also on the Farmers Market
'menu' – fiddles, guitar playing and singing a bonus at this great
market. Including an 8 year old who astounded all who heard her
tuneful melodies.
It is held presently in the Community
Rink but big plans are underway for a purpose built building – this
will house a permanent farmers market with a community kitchen, and a
multi-use space. A real asset to the local community.
Enjoy a local experience – feel good
– have fun - and come back!
There is now a flourishing members
co-operative and many fund-raising activities are being planned to
finance the new-build.
If you want to sell your wares, become
a member of the cooperative, or would like more information about all
